Requirements
Unlike many other college scholarships, the Lillie M Sawyer Teacher Scholarship recognizes academic potential and determination in students that have a definite need for financial assistance and are committed to pursue the field of education. To determine your eligibility as a high school senior, see if you meet all the criteria below:

  • High School Seniors. Currently in the 12th grade.

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA. Typical minimum admission requirement students must attain to be eligible for most colleges.

  • Evidence of Financial Need. Income versus outgo. How much do you earn and how much do you need to spend for necessary items (rent,food,utilities etc.)

  • Acceptance at Accredited Institution for Teacher Training. A school, college, university, or other teacher training institution considered by a regional accrediting association recognized by the State Board of Education or an alternative model approved by the State Board of Education.

  • Evidence of Community Service. A letter from the non-profit agency on the agency's letterhead stating what you did, how much time you did, when you did it, where you did if they have different programs, and who supervised your activities. It should be signed by either supervisor, volunteer coordinator, manager, or director of the program.

  • Resident of D. C. Metropolitan Area. The area includes the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.

  • Must Major in Teacher Education. The policies and procedures designed to equip prospective teachers with the knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and skills they require to perform their tasks effectively in the classroom, school and wider community.

  • Recent PSAT/SAT Scores. The standardized preliminary and scholastic assessment test score for college admission.
